“The ants you see here are Argentine ants and they are very social insects and they are very smart. They have multiple Queens set up all around the property, which is why they are very difficult to get rid of. And they love soil and mulch, and they love to hide under wood to protect their eggs because they don’t make traditional ant mounds like fire ants. So if you see these trailing around your home, that means there are thousands of them around and that’s what they’re very difficult to get rid of, so call powerhouse to get rid of them.”
Argentine Ant Infestation Summary
Key Characteristics
Highly Social & Intelligent: These ants operate in massive, coordinated networks.
Multiple Queens: Unlike many species, Argentine ant colonies have multiple queens distributed throughout a property, making them exceptionally resilient and difficult to eradicate.
Nesting Habits: They do not build traditional mounds. Instead, they prefer nesting in soil, mulch, or under wood to protect their eggs.
The Danger of “Trailing”
If you see a visible trail of these ants around your home, it is a sign of a much larger problem. A single visible trail often indicates that there are thousands more hidden nearby.
The Solution
Because of their complex colony structure, DIY methods often fail. Professional intervention is required to locate the various queen sites and eliminate the infestation at the source.
